Survivor-Centered Approaches

International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict

On the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict (19 June 2019), a refugee-led male survivor led support group organised an invite only event to commemorate this day. Unlike before, leadership of Men of Hope Refugee Association in Uganda (MoHRAU) organised an event to reflect on the progress of the group, achievements garnered on advocacy against sexual violence, and forge means of strengthening tailored advocacy for inclusive service provision for both female and male survivors of sexual violence as well as psychological and psychosocial support to their spouses and other household members. The event took place at Old Kampala Primary School Play Ground drawing a total of 370 participants (male survivors and their spouses, Refugee Law Project staff, representatives of other few refugee-led support groups and a select of other invited guests.

During the event, and in commemoration of the day, participants wrote (on manila cards) and presented hundreds of messages for Academia, Private sector, UN agencies, Donors, Humanitarian and Development workers. Herein, I summarise the day with selected photos.

Thank you.
