B – CONCLUDED PROJECTS (Direct Service Provision and Research Projects)

  • 2019: Consultations for the ‘Call it what it is campaign’. A partnership between RLP and Women’s Initiative for Gender Justice (WIGJ) as part of developing a Civil Society Declaration on SV which presents a broad view on how to interpret the concept of SV, based primarily on consultations with self-identified survivors. It blends a multitude of experience to provide guidance on what may constitute an ‘act of sexual nature’ and to indicate when an ‘act of sexual nature’ may become an ‘act of sexual violence’, and a critical reference point on SV in a way that is survivor-centric, forward-looking, and contextually relevant.
  • 2017-2019: “Securing Refugee-Host Relations in northern Uganda through enhanced protection” – The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Uganda through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Amount: EUR 2.376.304
  • 2018-2019: Pro-Victims project. “Screen-Refer-Support-Document: Medical Support and Awareness Raising for Refugee Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Against Men” (1 July 2018 – 31 June 2019). Total Amount: $149,713.
  • 2016-2017: “Systematic screening for sexual violence as a cause and impact of forced migration”. The Global Disaster Preparedness Centre. Product: “Hidden Realities: Screening for Experiences of Violence amongst War-Affected South Sudanese Refugees in northern Uganda” – Refugee Law Project 25 August 2017 (Link)
  • 2016: Conflict-related gender-based violence against men and boys – Uganda case study of men’s activism. Product: Publication: “Therapeutic Activism: Men of Hope Refugee Association Uganda Breaking the Silence over Male Rape in CRSV” (Link)

  • 2015: Men’s Collective Action in Response to SV. Research project explored men’s roles and contributions in responding to SGBV against men amongst refugees.   • 2015: Women’s Refugee Commission and Refugee Law Project research collaboration on the GBV risks facing urban refugees in Kampal. Product: Publication: “Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response: Key Risks Facing Urban Refugees in Kampala”. Dec 2015 (Link)
  • 2014-2015 – “Expansion of Inclusive Sexual Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response to Urban Refugees in Uganda.” Funded by Bureau of Population Refugee & Migration (BPRM 3). Total Project Budget: $200,000 (Sept. 2014 – Sept. 2015).
  • 2013-2014 – “Gender Inclusive SGBV Screening Response and Awareness for Most Vulnerable Refugees in Kampala” Funded by Bureau of Population Refugee & Migration (BPRM 2). Total Project Budget spent $200,000.00 (Sept. 2013 – Sept. 2014).
  • 2013-2014 – JHSPH 2013-2014: Johns Hopkins School of Public Health (Screening for Conflict-related Sexual Violence). Project aimed at Development of “Assessment Screen to Identify Survivors Toolkit for Gender Based Violence (ASIST-GBV)”
  • 2013 – LGBTI and Migration. RLP and Organization for Refuge, Asylum and Migration (ORAM). Product: Publication: “Blind Alleys: Part II Uganda’s Findings.  The Unseen Struggles of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Urban Refugees in Mexico, Uganda and South Africa” (Link)
  • 2013: Undressing Patriarchy Convention – focused on issues of men’s engagement on gender equality. RLP in partnership with regional and international partners [Centre for Health and Social Justice (CHSJ), and Men Engaged for Gender Equality Now (MEGEN). Product: Publication: “Undressing Patriarchy, Redressing Inequalities” (Link)
  • 2013-2016: Awareness raising and promotion of the rights of male refugees who are victims of sexual violence and combat stigma and discrimination in their communities. Funded by Fund for Global Human Rights. Project developed by a refugee-led male survivor group in Kampala with support of the Gender & Sexuality Programme (5,000 USD @year for 4 years).
  • 2012-2013 – “From Exclusion to Inclusion: Bridging the Response Gap for Urban Refugee Survivors of Sexual and Gender based Violence.” Funded by Bureau of Population Refugee & Migration (BPRM 1). Total Project Budget spent $99,805.00 (Mar 2012 – Feb 2013).
