Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Greetings from SOAS Radio. As you’re possibly aware, June 20 is World Refugee Day. On this day, we honor the courage, determination, and resilience of refugees as they flee from conflicts, violence and persecutions from their homelands. Ahead of this very important day, SOAS Refugee Forum proudly presents its fourth episode “The Struggle for Safety”.
Our guest this week is Hyab Yohannes, a student of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) pursuing MA Migration and Diaspora Studies. In this episode, we explore the challenges that refugees encounter in the quest for safety, and their copying strategies. Drawing from Hyab’s personal experiences, we highlight the plight of refugees, and what academics, donors, policy makers, and humanitarian workers can learn from to provide holistic and timely support to people seeking sanctuary.
Enjoy listening and best wishes in commemorating World Refugee Day. For those in the UK, you can get involved in any of the Refugee Week Event by watching a film, celebrating at your school, university or college, showing love in any possible way, and Joining the conversation on social media among others. Indeed, great things can happen when we get together. #OurSharedFuture
“I’ve met so many who have lost so much. But they never lose their dreams for their children or their desire to better our world. They ask for little in return – only our support in their time of greatest need” – UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.
